13 Injured as Grambling State University Buses Collide Near Fordyce

Fordyce – Authorities in Dallas County say 13 people have been transported to an area hospital following a chain-reaction accident involving a caravan of buses carrying the Grambling State University marching band.

The incident happened early Friday afternoon about six miles north of Fordyce on Highway 167. According to the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, four buses carrying about 170 members of the GSU band were traveling northbound, when the second bus slowed for an approaching vehicle marked ‘wide load.’ The trailing buses were unable to stop in time, causing the chain reaction.

Authorities say three people were transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital.  Others complaining of minor injuries were transported by police.

The sheriff says the buses involved in the accident are operated by Executive Coach in Irving, Texas.

The GSU band was headed to Little Rock to perform as part of this weekend’s Delta Classic football game between Grambling and UAPB.
