Motorola has been trying to make a comeback into the market for some time now. The recent launch of the tier one phone, Moto X has announced its arrival on to the scene and cutthroat competition. The mid range segment and lower priced devices market is a tough competition between companies like Samsung, Nokia, HTC etc.; in the International market. With a new company coming up almost every month, it has become a farfetched sight to rule the throne in this segment.
Motorola’s flagship model Moto X has a younger cousin named Moto G. It looks a lot similar to the former, but it is way cheaper with almost all the features; its competitors promise to offer. Well the difference here is that the Moto G not only promises, but also delivers with excellence. This is one big letdown in terms of storage space, but the phone does support USB On-The-Go (OTG).
Features that make the Moto G stand out
The phone feels great to touch with its curved back body with a soft and rubberized back cover. The cover also has an embossed Motorola logo, within a depression to rest the index finger while holding the phone. The front of the phone has a 4.5 inch IPS LCD display with a maximum resolution of 720×1280 pixels. That’s an amazing pixel density for a phone priced so low. Most competitors do not match up. Coming to more important things on the phone, the processor is a 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad core processor, powered by a massive 1GB of RAM.
The phone runs on stock android 4.4.2 and supports java too. The GPU is powered by a powerful Adreno 305, which allows heavy games to run pretty smoothly. Speaking of the camera, the rear camera is a 5mp camera, with a LED flash and the front facing camera for video calls and selfies; is a 1.3mp. Both are capable of shooting 720p videos at 30fps. As for protection, the front LCD is shielded by a Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The phone also supports dual sim and allows both of them to be 3g sim cards as well. The device also comes with the basic Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS support. NFC and Wi-Fi direct are a few features missing. But for the price range that it is offered, we never expected it to have the features it does have.
On the whole the Moto G is a great mid ranged device, power packed with awesome features for its price. It’s almost like a Moto X, but only misses out on a few features.
