SAN FRANCISCO – Despite his skepticism, Andrew Wiggins agreed to take his COVID-19 vaccination amidst threats of eligibility to play in the next season.
Last Sunday, Steve Kerr told the reporters that Andrew Wiggin could play in the Warriors’ home games because of his agreement to take the COVID-19 vaccine. However, Andrew Wiggins expressed his skepticism about the vaccine’s efficacy.
However, Steve Kerr told his team that the players could only play if they agreed to take the COVID-19 vaccines. San Francisco prohibits citizens above 12 years old from participating in large gatherings. The same rule also applies to the NBA players in their home court. However, visiting teams do not need to receive their vaccines for a visiting game.
Andrew Wiggins also agreed to take the COVID-19 vaccine because of the San Francisco Department of Public Health mandate requiring proof of vaccination for large indoor event.
Despite receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, Andrew Wiggins announced that he would stick to his beliefs about the vaccine. Despite having his “back against the wall,” he will continue fighting for what he believes in.
Unfortunately, the NBA denied Wiggins’ request to be exempt from the COVID-19 vaccine for religious reasons. Wiggins did not explain the specific reason for his refusal.
Wiggins also faced the threat of losing around $350,000 if Kerr did not allow him to play. If Wiggins refuses the COVID-19 vaccinations, he will need to surrender at least $15.8 million of his salary.
The Warriors will play against the Los Angeles Clippers on October 21, 2021.
