Police say a large brawl involving more than 300 people erupted after shots were fired inside an East Oakland church during a funeral for a man allegedly shot and killed by his teenage girlfriend.
Oakland police Officer Holly Joshi said the shots rang out around 12:20 p.m. Tuesday during services for Davante Riley at Cosmopolitan Baptist Church.
Officers arrived and saw more than 300 people fighting outside the church, including some carrying guns.
No one was shot, but five people were arrested. Three guns were recovered and two people were taken to the hospital complaining of pain.
Riley was fatally shot on April 18 while celebrating his 18th birthday in Oakland.
Prosecutors have charged a 15-year-old girl with murder. Police said she and Riley had been dating.
