The Amazing Spider-Man Scores Big During The Holiday

“The Amazing Spider-Man” is spinning a web of triumph this holiday season. In what has fast become the best Tuesday showing ever, Sony’s latest installment in super hero tales has grossed a cool $35.9 million. This makes the holiday’s second-best take behind 2007’s “Transformers,” with $29.1 million.

In just two days (including $7.5 million in midnight grosses), “Spider-Man” has grossed a box office total of $59.3 million domestically. That puts the film a tad behind “Transformers,” which had collected $65.8 million in its first two days, with an infusion of $8.8 million from evening show times the day before opening wide.

“Transformers” earned $155 million in its first six days — a comparable benchmark for “Spider-Man,” though Sony is citing revised expectations in the $120 million-$130 million range.

Bowing today at approximately 2,700 locations, Paramount’s “Katy Perry: Part of Me” is expected to hit in the low-to-mid teens range in four days. Pic earned $200,000 from just 100 advanced screenings on Monday, as an effort to kickstart viral word-of-mouth among Perry’s hardcore fans.

Universal’s R-rated crime thriller “Savages” bows wide on Friday, looking to target a primarily adult crowd. The film is expected to land in the low teens through Sunday.
