New Samsung 5D Heart Color Recognized in ISUOG Journal

SEOUL, South Korea – The latest effort by Samsung on making a difference when it comes to medical technology has not gone unnoticed. Samsung has just recently released its 5D Heart Color ultrasound technology, and it is now being recognized by the leading academic journal that is focused on the healthcare of women.

It isn’t the first time that the medical invention and innovation of the South Korea-based company was recognized by the academic journal. It is the second time it graced the journal’s cover since last year.

Samsung was proud of its achievement and shared the appearance of their latest technology on the Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology or UOG cover in their online Newsroom on Sunday. It is the official journal of the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology or ISUOG.

The 5D Heart Color technology is a brainchild by the affiliate of Samsung Electronics, Samsung Medison, that has been working on various diagnostic ultrasound systems since the year 1985. It is the latest technology for fetal echocardiography that is specially designed to have a precise congenital heart disease diagnosis.

It can provide up to nine different views of fetal echocardiography. It is now capable to better provide the vital information when it comes to various cardiac structures as well as its functions.

There are some other views that the 5D Heart Color can provide. It includes the three vessels and the trachea view, aortic arch view, four chamber view, both right and left ventricular outflow tract views, and many others.

According to Samsung, their new medical invention offers a simplified and standardized examination when it comes to fetal heart, making it easy to use. Also, the technology is not that dependent on its operator.

Samsung said that the best thing about the 5D Heart more than others is that it can capture the hemodynamic characteristics and anatomy of the congenital heart disease. For this reason, it makes the invention an excellent diagnostic tool for that particular case.

Insuk Song, the Health and Medical Equipment of Samsung Electronics vice president, said that it has been exciting for their new invention to be featured on the front cover of the academic journal.

He also stated that the timing was equally right especially that the 5D Heart diagnostic accuracy was released during the World Congress on Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology just last month.

Song also added that Samsung would not stop in focusing on developing the medical technology especially in improving the diagnosis of fetal congenital heart disease.

The photo used on the cover of the UOG was taken from the research paper that was led by Prof. Lami Yeo, M.D., from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the Wayne State University School of Medicine (Detroit).

He also worked with Prof. Roberto Romero, the Perinatology Research Branch chief of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development.

The clinical image was taken from a fetus of 26 weeks with a coarctation of the aorta and hypoplastic left heart.

The 5D Heart Color comes as the second Samsung creation that was featured on the cover of UOG. Their Crystal Vue Diagnostic ultrasound imaging technology was the cover of American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology last year and was featured in both March 2016 and April 2017 issues.
