“Let It Go.” You know, that song from Disney’s latest, Frozen. While so many are sick of hearing it – everywhere- others are still quite enamored with the tune. Those that can relate to the song’s very grown up lyrics outside of the context of the movie itself are also not tired of hearing it.
Demi Lovato, for instance, has a deeply personal connection the lyrics of letting go. She has, after all, had a very hard life, struggling with many things like drugs, bulimia, alcohol, and bullying. Yet, she managed to overcome them all. And, she did so while keeping her fans informed of what she was going through.
Lovato says she does have a strong desire to be a good role model, which motivated her to overcome her demons and to move forward. She wants to turn it into a positive message for others and feels she has. Apparently, Disney agrees. They had her release her own version of the hit song “Let It Go,” which is originally sung by broadway singer Idina Menzel.
Songwriter Kristen Anderson-Lopez gave her approval when she told the Wall Street Journal, “Demi had a past that she’s pretty open about that is similar to the lead character’s Elsa’s journey of letting a dark past and fear behind and moving forward with your power.”
Demi’s statement says, “It’s so relatable. Elsa is finally accepting her own strength. Instead of hiding it, she’s letting it go and embracing it.”
Lovato’s version has been certified platinum and has sold more than a million copies.
