LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Warner Bros. recently released the second official trailer for Tomb Raider, and it’s everything fans could hope for. The trailer showed how close the franchise will be to Crystal Dynamics’ 2013 game reboot of the same title and “Rise of the Tomb Raider.” This has been something that fans have been expecting ever since the movie was announced.
The trailer also revealed the dangerous adventure that Lara Croft will be facing. The popular character, which Angeline Jolie once played, will now be played by Oscar winner Alicia Vikander in the upcoming movie adaptation.
But unlike the old games that Jolie became the face of, Vikander’s version of Croft will be a more grounded character. Instead of the tough holster-wearing chic, the new version will be more of like a survivor. The Swedish actress said that it was Jolie who made the character iconic. But they are not trying to redo that. Instead, what they are doing is going back to the roots and telling the origin of the story.
This means that the Croft that the fans will be seeing on the big screen is younger and an inexperienced adventurer. Jolie’s version was already full formed when she was introduced in the films. Vikander will also appear exactly like how Croft looks like in the games. From the tank tops to the environment that she will be exploring, the movie will be totally based on the games.
Fans who have played the game will be able to instantly recognize the similarity. Some may have identified the scene in the trailer wherein Croft jumped off a research vessel in the midst of the storm and ended up in a strange island. She also shoots with a bow and raids tombs, as expected.
It appears that a lot of the Tomb Raider movie will show off Croft’s survival skills. It’s also going to touch a bit of Croft’s family history. In the games, their roles in Croft’s life have always been mysterious. Her father, for instance, has a lot secrets that she will be unearthing as she goes on the journey.
For those who are not in the loop yet, Warner Bros. adaptation will follow Croft’s story beginning from her childhood. She was barely a teen when her eccentric adventurer father disappeared suddenly. At 21, she lived her life trying to make it through as a bike courier. She goes to college as she refuses to follow her father’s footsteps in the business area.
But she remains hopeful that she will still be able to find him. So she leaves everything behind and goes on a trip to her father’s last-known destination, which is in a mythical island located somewhere off the coast of Japan. This is where Croft’s dangerous adventure will begin. She will need to unleash everything that she has in her in order to survive the journey. She may also uncover the mystery that her father has been trying to solve.
Aside from Vikander, Tomb Raider franchise reboot will also star Dominic West, Daniel Wu, Kristin Scott Thomas, and Walton Goggins. Tomb Raider will arrive in cinemas on March 16.
I missed this one in the movies.
Looks like it will be a dvd moment for me.
