At 68 and 49 years old, respectively, Costner and Jewel have been in a discreet relationship for a while, a close source divulged in the latest edition of Us Weekly. According to this informant, both entertainers hold each other in high regard and have shared a harmonious bond for a long time. They find that they fulfill many of each other’s desires in a partner.
This same source also noted that their romantic connection developed naturally, stemming from a mutual passion for music. “Costner is deeply involved with his band, Modern West, and his singing pursuits, and Jewel is firmly rooted in the country-and-western music scene,” the insider informed Us. The source added that they have been moving in similar social spheres for years before deciding to date, surprising many of their mutual acquaintances that they hadn’t become a couple sooner.
Amid the strong bond shared by Costner and Jewel, the insider highlighted that they are progressing cautiously in their relationship, especially in light of Costner’s recent challenging divorce from his ex-wife, Christine Baumgartner.
The source shared with Us Weekly that neither Costner nor Jewel is putting any pressure on their relationship. Both are inclined to let things evolve naturally. Earlier in the month, Costner and Jewel (full name Jewel Kilcher) were seen getting close on Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands. TMZ released photos on December 8 showing them intimately engaged at a tennis event supporting Jewel’s Inspiring Children Foundation. In one photo, Costner is seen embracing Jewel around her waist while she appears to be speaking into a microphone. They were also photographed in matching white outfits as part of a group picture.
This public outing happened seven months following Baumgartner, also aged 49, initiating divorce proceedings from Costner after an 18-year marriage. Costner and Baumgartner have three children together: Cayden, 16, Hayes, 14, and Grace, 13. Costner also has four other children from previous relationships.
The divorce between Costner and Baumgartner was finalized in September after negotiations over child support and Baumgartner’s move-out date from their California home. Speaking to Access Hollywood in September, Costner expressed the emotional difficulty of the situation, acknowledging his enduring affection for Baumgartner.
Before her relationship with Costner, Jewel was married to rodeo star Ty Murray from 2008 until 2014, and they have a son, Kase Townes, aged 12.
