Claudette Dion, sister of Celine Dion, recently provided an update on Celine’s health challenges, specifically her battle with Stiff-Person Syndrome. In an interview with the French publication 7 Jours, which The Hollywood Reporter translated, Claudette remarked on Celine’s continuous efforts against the disorder, highlighting her inability to command her muscles effectively.
She reflected on Celine’s disciplined nature and her mother’s encouraging words, expressing hope for Celine’s return to performing. However, Claudette expressed uncertainty about Celine’s future stage presence, considering the impact of the disorder on her vocal cords and heart.
Claudette expressed frustration over the limited scientific research dedicated to Stiff-Person Syndrome, noting its rarity as a possible cause for the lack of advancement in its treatment. Earlier in the year, speaking to Hello! Canada, Claudette conveyed the family’s hopes for a medical breakthrough to combat the condition.
Further elaborating on the symptoms of Stiff-Person Syndrome, Claudette described them as similar to the sudden cramps people experience at night, but affecting all muscles. She noted the family’s helplessness in significantly reducing Celine’s pain.
Celine Dion herself disclosed her diagnosis with this rare neurological disorder in a video posted on Instagram in December 2022. She shared that this condition, affecting roughly one in a million people, was responsible for her spasms. These spasms, she explained, severely hinder her daily activities, making it difficult to walk and sing as she once did.
