Following recent allegations by “Happy Endings” star Casey Wilson about Tim Allen’s behavior on the set of “The Santa Clauses,” “Modern Family” actor Eric Stonestreet has expressed interest in possibly taking over the famed Christmas role, but with specific conditions. Stonestreet, known for his work on the popular sitcom, stated that he would only consider the role if Allen was no longer interested and if he received Allen’s endorsement.
Stonestreet conveyed to ABC Audio his readiness to join the franchise, emphasizing his respect for Allen as the definitive Santa Claus for many people. He expressed his eagerness to be involved in any capacity, should the opportunity arise and the conditions be right.
Notably, Stonestreet is already part of “The Santa Clauses” universe, portraying Magnas Antas, a former Santa who becomes disillusioned and turns against humanity. His portrayal demonstrates his capability to embody a Santa character, blending elements of intimidation and lovability.
Stonestreet shared with the Los Angeles Daily News his excitement about his role in “The Santa Clauses,” particularly the chance to work alongside Allen. He recalled a memorable experience of having lunch with Allen on set and then acting together, describing it as a highlight of his involvement in the series.
Given Stonestreet’s long-standing relationship with Disney and ABC, where “Modern Family” was also produced, he might be a fitting candidate for the role if Allen decides to step aside. Allen, who has been portraying Santa Claus for nearly three decades, is still actively involved in the series and has even pondered ideas for a potential third season. Despite rumors of his difficult demeanor on set, Allen appears not ready to relinquish the role.
However, should the time come for a new actor to don the iconic red suit, Stonestreet has made it clear that he is prepared and enthusiastic to take on the mantle of Santa Claus, complete with the sack of presents and the iconic beard.
