NEW YORK CITY, NY – Marvel Cinematic Universe’s upcoming film Deadpool 2 was set to be released on the first day of June 2018. However, it has recently been announced that due to some changes and shuffling in movie releases, the movie will be released two weeks earlier than originally planned.
It can be recalled that when the announcement on the Deadpool sequel was made, it was set to be released on June 1, 2018. However, 20th Century Fox recently announced that they will be releasing the sequel, to be entitled Deadpool 2, at an earlier date, precisely on May 18, 2018, which is two weeks before the original release date.
In line with this, other movies’ release dates were also moved, such as The New Mutants which was bumped off almost a year. It was originally set to be released on April 13, 2018, but instead bumped off to February 22, 2019, release date. Due to the merger between Fox and Disney, it is unknown how this would affect the movie since it will take about one year for the merger to be assessed.
According to reports, the movement on the movies’ release dates is to ensure that there will be no overlap of its theatrical runs in the overseas market. Another movie being bumped off by the studio is their upcoming movie adaptation of Gambit. It was moved from February 14, 2019, release date to June 7, 2019.
One of its reasons is the director’s withdrawal from the project, reportedly due to some scheduling issues. Nevertheless, actor Channing Tatum is still set to star the movie. The movie will reportedly be a better serve to the audience in the summer, hence the reschedule of its release date.
Although some fans may react negatively to these changes in the Deadpool 2 release dates, the studio assures they did it for a reason. Nevertheless, Deadpool fans will be seeing their favorite comic superhero at an earlier time.
One week after the upcoming Deadpool 2 is set to be released, Disney is also scheduled to release one of the most awaited Star Wars film of all time, Solo: A Star Wars Story. Now, it cannot be denied that the Star Wars fans all over the world are beyond imaginable in support for their movie sequels. Releasing a movie that will compete with it is definitely not a move that many studios are willing to make. However, it looks about 20th Century Fox is not scared of any competition, deciding to air their movie a week prior to another Star Wars sequel.
Deadpool, which was released back in 2016, surprisingly became a box office hit. Not many assumed for it to hit such audience, given its storyline which is not a famous plot for Marvel’s superhero films. Thus, this has led to high expectations on the upcoming sequel which will be in theaters in four months.
Despite the many changes in the movie release dates, fans of the movie Deadpool are just excited to get to watch the upcoming sequel earlier than expected. Fans are known to really be falling in line for the premiere of the movies, and Deadpool 2 is no different.
